After vaccination:
Common reactions:
-
Local reaction: tenderness and redness at the injection site, which can be treated by applying a cool damp cloth or ice pack at the injection site; if pain is severe enough, aspirin or acetominophen can be taken.
Occasionally:
-
General side effects: "flu-like" symptoms (fever, headache, achiness and fatigue), which can be treated with aspirin or acetominophen and/or rest.
Rarely:
-
Severe allergic reaction: potentially life threatening; the majority of these reactions occur within the first few minutes after vaccination, which is why we ask clients to remain at the clinic for 15 minutes afterwards; allergic reactions may occur at a later interval after vaccinations. Beware of the symptoms:
- Shortness of breath
- Difficulty breathing
- Swelling around the mouth or tongue
- Hoarseness or wheezing
- Widespread severe itchiness
